T-002 Tyrant

The T-002 Tyrant was originally conceived by Umbrella, Inc. as the ultimate BOW, created by scientists within the Spencer Estate labs using the T-Virus. It was a hulking, gray-skinned humanoid with an exposed heart and massive claws on its left hand, enabling it to slice through an enemy like a hot knife through butter.

The Spencer Estate scientists were infected with the T-Virus following a lab accident, and turned into zombies before they could finish their work on the T-002. As a result, the Tyrant remained suspended in a tank of fluids in the main lab, making it the only non-human denizen of the Spencer Estate to remain unreleased until the arrival of the STARS Alpha Team.

Albert Wesker, the commander of Alpha Team and an Umbrella double agent, hoped to use the Tyrant to get rid of the remaining Alphas, Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine. Wesker released the partially-completer monster from its tank, but the Tyrant was not to be controlled by its would-be master. After skewering Wesker on its claws, it turned on Redfield and Valentine and was seemingly dispatched after a lengthy firefight.

But as the surviving STARS members made for the estate's helipad to be picked up by Brad Vickers, the Tyrant, still alive and kicking, reappeared for a second bout. It was finally dispatched when Vickers threw his teammates a rocket launcher, which they used to blow the T-002 to smithereens.

More Tyrants and Tyrant variants like Mr. X and Nemesis would crop up in later games in various places, such as Rockfort Island in Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Sheena Island in Resident Evil: Gun Survivor, underground Umbrella laboratories in Raccoon City in games such as Resident Evil: Zero and Resident Evil: Outbreak, and aboard the Spencer Rain in Resident Evil: Dead Aim.

Tyrants also made future appearances in the Wildstorm/DC Comics, such as the one encountered by Barry Burton in a hidden laboratory beneath a hospital in Lockdown by Kris Oprisko the one dropped off at the Villalobos Mines by two unscrupulous Umbrella cargo chopper pilots in Special Delivery by Marc Mostman.
