History

The Universal Inhumans was the name given to the collective number of races that had been genetically altered to be Inhumans. Their origins were traced to the genetic experimentations of the Kree race with initially this believed to had been the result of a bio-weapon creation program. In reality, the purpose of the project was long term as the ruling Supreme Intelligence had intended for it to be used as a means of reigniting their stagnant evolution. Part of the program was based at a research facility on Uranus in the Sol system where genetic experiments were conducted on Homo Antecessor from Earth due to the species unique genetic potential. Similar such experiments were conducted on specimens from the Centaurians, Badoon, Kymellians and the Dire Wraiths. (Fantastic Four v1 #577)

They were later approached by a member of the Interdimensional Council of Reeds who had an audience with the queens and asked for use of a region in the Blue Area of the Moon that was to be used for an archaeological expedition. Though his mind was shielded, his thoughts were probed by a Centauri telepath who learnt that the multiversal traveller was lying about his goals. Whitemane then broke the Reed's hover chair and a Dire Wraith absorbed his mind in order to learn its secrets that were a grave threat to them all. (FF v1 #3)

The Queens were then responsible for interrogating an alternate version of Reed Richards and learnt of the danger he and his comrades posed to the world. It was then that the Great City arrived from Hala that contained their human-based Inhuman kin along with their leader Black Bolt who had returned from his apparent demise. With the Inhumans reunited, Black Bolt was introduced to his other wives from the various tribes of the Universal Inhumans as a genetic prophecy began to take place. (FF v1 #7)

Overview

Similar to the Earth-bound Inhumans, each of the various races of the Universal Inhumans had their own genetic catalyst that triggered their respective transformations which included:

  • Isogenesis : created through injecting the extract of the Isogen Orbs. (Fantastic Four v1 #577)
  • Amphogenesis : created from the diluted waters that contained Amphogen Well. (Fantastic Four v1 #577)

  • Exogenesis : created from the inhaling of Exogen Spice that brought about the eternal change. (Fantastic Four v1 #577)

They maintained a unit of elite warriors known as the Light Brigade that comprised of the six greatest Inhuman warriors. Each brigade took part in a ritual known as the Offering that took place every generation whereby these warriors fought in an endless succession of trials to internally prove their worthiness to the Inhuman collective. The Offering ended with the death of the last member of the Light Brigade with no brigade surviving longer than a year. (Fantastic Four v1 #577)
