This saw him bringing in Wintergreen and his ex-wife Adeline Wilson onto the project where she came to receive support from Admiral Dexter Honore in the U.S. military. Wilson came to be the head of a team of young heroes that came to include Jericho, Rose Wilson, Tanya Spears and Wallace West with Terra also recruited into Defiance. Their first assignment was at the Chetland Islands where a U.S. Embassy was seized and American citizens were taken hostage leading to Deathstroke along with Defiance making their debut before the Justice League could intervene. (Deathstroke v4 #21) This saw their debut against the Radiant Men that were solid light constructs that were seemingly working under Supreme Commander Amir Ogdengenes. During the fight, Deathstroke went missing leading to Defiance having to battle their foes alone though in reality Slade had gone to confront the true mastermind of the Radiant Men which was Arthur Light. Meanwhile, Defiance came to find a weakness in their foes and turned the tied but then faced a powerful foe named the Radiant Man. He managed to overpower the team until Terra managed to destroy leading to Defiance winning the fight and freeing the hostages. Deathstroke then arrived at the scene to charge for their services to the U.S. Ambassador. (Deathstroke v4 #22) Later on, Defiance was dispatched to help the Ms Victory that was being hijacked by East African pirates who set a massive explosion to sink the ship. The team came to operate on their own due to the vessel being located in international waters that resulted in a clash of jurisdictions. (Deathstroke v4 #23) Slade later conducted surprise training on the team with this exposing the fact that Wallace West was spying on them and recording his finding. (Deathstroke v4 #24) Afterwards, Slade Wilson went missing but Adeline Kane instead insisting that they follow up on a mission in New Orleans. However, the team disobeyed orders with most of them looking for Wilson and found that he had been brought to a meeting of the Secret Society of Super-Villains.
