Stardust Crusaders
Jean Pierre Polnareff (Japanese: ジャン=ピエール・ポルナレフ, Hepburn: Jan Piēru Porunarefu?) was a male human born in the 20th century in the French country side where he naturally possessed his Stand since birth but had been unaware of it. He had a younger sister named Sherry Polnareff and at some point when he was still young his mother had died leaving him a lonely child. Three years ago, his sister was ambushed, raped and murder by the violent J. Geil with Polnareff vowing revenge to kill the man. Afterwards, he began to constantly train upon manifesting his Stand and sought to use this power to kill Geil to avenge Sherry. Around this time, the power of his Stand attracted the attention of DIO who used his own power to lure Jean into a trap whereupon he brainwashed him. Polnareff was to serve as part of DIO's army of Stand users that he intended to use to conquer the world. A threat later emerged to DIO when members of the Joestar family began to manifest their Stand powers at the same time as DIO as a result of his possession of Jonathan Joestar's body. As a result, Noriaki Kakyoin was sent to Japan to eliminate one of these threats namely Jotaro Kujo but he failed and was freed from DIO's mind control. The Joestar family and their allies set out to destroy DIO with his followers being dispatched to stop them with Polnareff being one of those sent to stop them with him lying in wait in Hong Kong. Under the influence of Dio, he attacked the Joestar party where he was confronted by Muhammad Avdol and was defeated after some difficulty. While conceding in his defeat, Jotaro sensed Dio's cells in Polnareff's forehead and removed the implant. Afterwards, Polnareff came to join the Joestar group in their quest to destroy their nemesis Dio Brando.
During their journey, went to Singapore where whilst staying at a hotel Polnareff came to be targeted by one of DIO's followers who was the assassin Devo the Cursed (呪いのデーボ Noroi no Dēbo).
Afterwards, Polnareff came to find the location of his sister's killer J. Geil and looked to avenge her death. This led to him battling Geil who was a Stand user whilst his team confronted his partner Hol Horse. During the course of the fight, Polnareff managed to kill Geil but came to learn that Avdol had seemingly died in his own fight against his foe. Avdol's death am to weigh heavily on Jean Pierre who felt responsible for the loss of a friend.
The team later went to India where they came to encounter a woman named Nena. Jean Pierre came to believe that she was a victim who was being used by Hol Horse. However, it was later discovered that she was an enemy Stand user working against them.
They later were driving through northern India when they were confronted by another enemy Stand user named ZZ. Polnareff came to be deceived by the man and nearly set on fire by his foe until their enemy was defeated.
Later on, they stayed at a hotel where Polnareff came to befriend an elderly woman unaware that she was Enya the Hag who was the mother of J. Geil and looked to avenge her son. She came to briefly take control of Jean Pierre and to humiliate him by making him lick a toilet but was later defeated.
Polnareff was a great help against another enemy Stand user named Steely Dan where he helped Kakyoin in freeing Joseph from The Lovers control.
Jean Pierre and the rest of the team came upon a seemingly abandoned child in the desert where they came to look after the boy. They were unaware though that the seeming child as actually an enemy Stand user whose Stand Death 13 appeared in their dreams when they slept and looked to kill them. Only Kakyoin came to be aware of this and looked to save his compatriots from Death 13. Polnareff came to inadvertently help save the day by knocking out Kakyoin whilst he had his Stand out allowing him to se it in the dream world and defeat their foe.
Afterwards, he came to briefly separate from the group where he thought he had encountered a genie. In reality, this was Cameo who tricked Jean Pierre with his Stand Judgement that allowed him to wish back clones of Polnareff's sister and Avdol. These clay golems then attacked Polnareff who was only saved by the arrival of the real Avdol who was revealed to had survived his earlier encounter with Hol Horse.
He falls again under the side of Dio when he is possessed by Anubis, but once again, Jotaro frees him.
Once they reach Egypt, the party came to be accompanied by Iggy who was a Stand-wielding dog that had been tamed by Avdol. Polnareff and Iggy got on the wrong foot at first, but later became good friends, especially after Iggy sacrificed himself to save Polnareff from Vanilla Ice's assault. Not wanting his two closest friends' deaths to have been in vain, Polnareff defeats Vanilla Ice and then assists the others in fighting Dio. After the vampire met his end, Polnareff was last seen meeting Jotaro and Joseph at Egypt's airport before going back to France.
Golden Wind
Afterwards, they came to discover that special relics called the Arrows were responsible for creating Stand users with multiple such artifacts smuggled from Egypt. Thus, in the 1990s, Polnareff and Jotaro decided to seek out the other Arrows with Jean devoting his efforts to investigating Africa and Europe. In this time, he came to learn of a sudden spike in activity in the region of Italy linked to a criminal organization called Passione. With his skill, he fought these criminals with ease as he continued to track down the individual with the Arrow. This led to a confrontation with the person named Diavolo by the side of a cliff. Jean attempted to kill his foe but Diavolo proved to be the stronger combatant due to his Stand's power that allowed him to skip time. This resulted in Polnareff being heavily injured and falling off the cliff to his apparent death. However, Jean survived though had suffered critical injuries where he lost his lower legs and one of his eyes thus forcing him to be a cripple in a wheelchair. During this time, he came to hide out in an isolated farming village where he found the Stand Arrow from Egypt which had fallen behind a counter. At first, he attempted to pick it up but his condition meant he struggled and thus used his Stand to recover it. The Stand was then accidently pierced by the Arrow which transformed it to achieve its true potential as Silver Chariot Requiem. However, Polnareff was unable to control the Stand which went berserk and whose power caused all living beings within its vicinity to fall asleep as it developed the power to influence the mind. Jean managed to work quickly to remove the Arrow thus returning his Stand back to normal. This led to Polnareff considering the possibilities of using a Stand to defeat Diavolo who was the mysterious Boss of Passione and whose Stand power made him formidable. He himself was unable to do so as his wounded state and his inability to control his Stand's Requiem power meant he could not use it to its true potential. Sometime afterwards, he came to learn of a rebel group within Passione that opposed their boss with this being led by Bruno Bucciarrati. Jean became an anonymous ally to them as they sought to uncover the identity of the boss and his power along with a means defeating him. Polnareff arranged for them to meet him at the coliseum in Rome where he intended to show them the hidden power of the Stand Arrow that could be used to defeat Diavolo. Whilst there, Rome fell into chaos as Passione henchmen Cioccolata and Secco had been dispatched to eliminate Team Bucciaratti. After their defeat, a wounded Bucciaratti was aided into the coliseum by Doppio with no one knowing that he was secretly Diavolo. With the threat of exposure, Diavolo decided to make his move to eliminate Polnareff leading to Jean being taken by surprise. Despite his precautions, he was outclassed by Diavolo's Stands with him attempting to send the Arrow to safety but was mortally wounded before the relic could be taken to safety. The Arrow, however, pierced Silver Chariot turning it into its Requiem state where it went berserk and use its power to cause everyone to fall asleep and swap their minds with the closest living thing next to them. Thus, Jean's mind was switch with that of a turtle named Coco Jumbo that was being used by Team Bucciaratti where he spoke to them in order to reveal the important information needed to defeat Diavolo.
As his body dies, it leaves Silver Chariot Requiem on a rampage through the city until it is stopped by Diavolo. After the mafia boss is finally brought down at the hands of Giorno's Gold Experience Requiem, Polnareff, although his body is no more, lives the remainder of his life as a spirit inside Coco Jumbo. It is claimed that the turtle's Stand is strong enough to safeguard even spirits, allowing them to linger once more.
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, Jean Pierre Polnareff was a man of above-average height and muscular build who had a receded hairline with his head having silvery hair in a tall flat top. He also wears earrings in the shape of jaggedly halved (broken) hearts., tight sleeveless shirt and pants, and with broken hearts as earrings.
Polnareff is the stereotypical "good natured klutz"; he is heroic and protective of those he loves, but is not very bright (although he has shown lots of cunning and strategy throughout the series). He is very impulsive and loud, and is quick to jump into action without considering the risk, character traits that have landed him in lots of trouble. However, he is sincerely dedicated to doing good, and is a good man to watch your back. He also fancies himself as a ladies man, but this is possibly just him overestimating his actual prowess.
One of his most defining trait was his honor where he was known to handicap himself on purpose by explaining his ability and to fight his opponents in a terrain more suitable to the latter. Such as his commitment to honor that even when under the control of DIO he refuse to do something as dishonorable as attacking someone from the back. This chivalrous mindset meant that Polnareff was reluctant to flee from a fight or use dishonorable tactics.
Out of all the characters in the series, Polnareff is the one that has the least problems showing his feelings, and he adds a lot of humor and warmth to what would otherwise be a pretty cold team (Kakyoin and Jotaro in particular are very cold characters). Indeed, while he may sometimes be seen as the comic relief of the series, Polnareff's companions appreciate his good nature and trust him to help them win when a tough battle arrives.
Due to being somewhat of a narcissist, Jean Pierre came to consider himself to be a handsome man and took great pride in his hair. This led to him also seeing himself as a ladies man where a woman's good looks was enough to distract him from serious matters.
Jean Pierre Polnareff was noted to have had a younger sister named Sherry Polnareff. She came to be raped and murdered by J. Geil with Jean Pierre looking to avenge her death.
Interestingly, Polnareff's best friends during the course of the series are Mohammed Avdol and Iggy, both of whom he couldn't stand when they first met. In fact, no character mourns the deaths of his companions like Polnareff does, and no other character is as dedicated to avenging them. Later on, his body is destroyed, and thus his soul is transferred to a turtle, Coco Jumbo, which implies that he lives well into the next century.
Powers and abilities
Jean Pierre Polnareff was a human born with the ability to produce a Stand (スタンド Sutando) that was a visual manifestation of his life force. His Stand was present with him since he was a child but it never manifested completely until adulthood. This external spirit took the form of a humanoid being called Silver Chariot (シルバーチャリオッツ(銀の戦車) Shirubā Chariottsu). In appearance, it looks like a thin, robotic humanoid clad in medieval armor, armed with a rapier. This was a very powerful battle dedicated Stand where he was able to channel its destructive nature to aid him in battle. It was an incredible agile Stand able to attack enemies with barrages of sword slashes and thrusts before the opponent could react. It could also use this agility along with its sword to defend and deflect attacks aimed at it. Through intensive training, he was able to expertly wield his Stand to the point he was able to slash fire attacks from Avdol's Magician's Red away from him without any harm. If necessary, Polnareff could also shed Silver Chariot's armor away thus exposing its more skeletal robotic form. In this form, Silver Chariot was even faster to the point it can actually move fast enough to create doubles of itself. These doubles were not illusory but rather the Stand moving at faster-than-the-eye-can-see speed between different positions. As such, if all the doubles were to attack at once then it would mean that the Stand was attacking from all those positions simultaneously giving it incredible destructive power. Similarly, because of this same speed, attacking the doubles would be futile, as the Stand could easily move away before being harmed. In addition, Polnareff had a secret attack technique that was called 'shooting the sword', in which the blade of his sword detached at high speed. He used this only when he was certain it will strike, because the blade had to be reattached before Silver Chariot could fight effectively again.
After being pierced by the Stand Arrow, Polnareff was transformed into a state where it achieved its potential where it became Chariot Requiem (チャリオッツ・レクイエム Chariottsu Rekuiemu). This led to a change in its appearance as its form became more solid and darker in shape. According to Jean, he was not strong enough to control his Stand in this state where it had a tendency to go berserk and operate on its own. In addition, it was able to operate even after the death of its user and moved according to its own objectives. The Stand operated by controlling the spirits of people whereby it influenced the mind of living beings around it. This manifested first by putting everyone around it into a deep sleep whereby it could commence its primary method of attack which was switching the spirits of all living beings and swapping their minds into the creature nearest to them. Once there, it could swap the minds of living beings to the creature nearest to them. Silver Chariot Requiem could also turn another persons Stand against their user though it only did this when its objective was being threatened. Finally, the Requiem Stand had the power to accelerate evolution of everything around its effective range.
