History

Bajor was a Class M planet in a planetary system located in the Alpha Quadrant, near the Denorios Belt. Its day is 26 Earth hours long, and it has seven moons.

Bajor is the home world of the Bajorans, a space-faring warp-capable civilization.

Bajor was occupied by Cardassian military forces for over 50 years, during which time Bajor was stripped of most of its valuable natural resources and its land was rendered mostly unfit for farming. The Cardassians employed Bajoran slaves in order to mine ore, and to process the ore aboard an orbiting space station constructed by the Cardassians for that purpose, named Terok Nor.

After the Cardassian withdrawal, the United Federation of Planets took over Terok Nor and renamed it Deep Space Nine, in order to protect the Bajorans and prepare them for eventual membership in the Federation. Soon thereafter, a stable wormhole was discovered near Bajor, leading to the Gamma Quadrant 50,000 light years away. Deep Space Nine was relocated near the local terminus of the wormhole in order to defend it and to and manage transportation to and from the Gamma Quadrant.
