Blitzwing was a Decepticon (Destron) Triple Changer, capable of becoming a jet or a tank.

Blitzwing and Astrotrain once collaborated with Starscream to overthrow Megatron. However, Starscream was trapped with Megatron, and the two Triple Changers factionalized the Decepticons. Megatron soon re-emerged to take command back.
In 2006 (2010), Blitzwing was the only Decepticon to have deeply-buried racial memories of the newly-arrived Quintessons, leading him to mistrust them and stay behind on Charr. Galvatron valued his loyalty, until Blitzwing discovered that the Quintessons planned to use a device within Cybertron (Seibertron) to freeze all Transformers. When Galvatron refused to listen, he went to the Autobots (Cybertrons). Disgusted by Blitzwing's apparent betrayal, Galvatron banished him from the Decepticon ranks.

Blitzwing was a subordinate of Ratbat, sent to Earth to set up Ratbat's Wash N' Roll plan.
Dreamwave
Blitzwing was the first Transformer to show the potential for two modes, and was fully reformatted into his current form by some of Shockwave's earliest experiments. He served as one of Shockwave's chief soldiers, but his aggression made him less than ideal for his leader's plans.
