Biography

Kazuo Oyama was a Japanese male and a member of the Oyama family and the older brother of Yuriko Oyama. (Deadpool v9 #3)

He had been hired by parties to assassinate a Chinese man who was in a highly defended bunker in China. Upon receiving his expensive fee, he went to Argentina where he fired a specialised round from a sniper rifle that drilled through the ground from there to China thus killing the target. He was then given a contract by the Red Right Hand to find and kill Mystique. Lord Deathstrike found his quarry where he used a sniper rifle to lodge an explosive bullet in the dark thus badly wounding her. Despite her injuries, Mystique managed to evade Lord Deathstrike and went on the run with him in close pursuit. He eventually tracked her down but the shapeshifter used her power to enter into a store and purchase guns to fight back against her attacker. Around this time, Wolverine had arrived who wanted information on the Red Right Hand with Lord Deathstrike tasked with preventing Mystique from revealing what she knew of the group. Wolverine managed to defeat Lord Deathstrike who Mystique then shot a bullet but his mask protected him and in the moment he managed to escape by phasing through the ground. Wolverine then killed Mystique during a confrontation between the pair and though he failed in killing her it was Lord Deathstrike who recovered her deceased body where he brought it to the black market. Once there, it was put up for a bid at an auction with it eventually being sold to a group of ninjas. (Wolverine v4 #9)

Soon afterwards, he was hired to kill the Hand's leader Azuma Gōda, but after successfully shooting him in the head, he discovered that his target was actually the shapeshifter Mystique. She had been resurrected by the Hand and ended up impersonating Gōda in order to face him as revenge for almost killing her previously. After a brief fight, Mystique revealed to him her true intentions and asked him if he was interested into working for the soon to be invisible King of Asia, Sabretooth, which he accepted. (Wolverine v2 #303)

He came to be reunited with his sister and they were both invited alongside several other villains to Lowtown, Madripoor, where Sabretooth held a party to celebrate his rise to the top of the Asian criminal empire. But Wolverine heard about it and decided to crash the party, defeating Lord Deathstrike and every other villain present before wishing a 'happy birthday' to Sabretooth as revenge for what he did to him in the past. (Wolverine v2 #304)

He later came to be recruited by Kade Kilgore and served as an agent of his Hellfire Club. (Wolverine and the X-Men v1 #20) Lord Deathstrike was then assigned to the faculty at the newly established school of the Hellfire Academy. (Wolverine and the X-Men v1 #31)

Deathstrike was among the mercenaries that were hired by the Philadelphia-based Lord Ogre who had them target Agent Venom. All the assassins were working independently from one another with each wanting to claim the prize for themselves but this led to them fighting one another allowing for Venom to escape. (Venom v2 #37)

Sabretooth's goal was to swap this reality for another one in order to create a new primal world where there was no technology, no rules, and no powers that were not physical. This world would benefit the strongest, and Sabretooth would be a god there. (Wolverine v6 #10) His plans failed when Mystique, Lord Deathstrike, the Silver Samurai, and the Hand were defeated by Wolverine and his allies. (Wolverine v6 #11) After his army fell, Sabretooth was ultimately defeated by Wolverine and, alongside the rest of his army, was taken into S.H.I.E.L.D.'s custody. (Wolverine v6 #12)

Lord Deathstrike managed to escape custody and later attended an auction that was selling a damaged Rigellian Recorder that contained predictions of the future. The event fell into chaos as all the supervillain attendees attempted to forcibly claim the robot with Lord Deathstrike attempting to acquire it. This brought him into conflict with the Mercs for Money but was he was stopped before he could get the machine from Deadpool. (Deadpool & the Mercs for Money v1 #3) Deathstrike was later one of a number of assassins sent to murder the vigilante Daredevil but he failed on his assignment and was defeated by the hero. (Daredevil v5 #15)

Later on, the Punisher came to be chosen by the Archpriestess of the Hand to serve as their new leader and High Slayer. To help test him, she hired Lady Bullseye and Lord Deathstrike where they were tasked with eliminating him. However, Frank Castle came to manifest another power of the Beast of the Hand where he seemingly killed Lord Deathstrike during the encounter. This helped secure Castle's position as High Slayer of the Hand and further align him to the cause of the Hand. (Punisher v13 #4)
