Biography
Origin
Blastaar was a male inhabitant of the planet Baluur that was located in the Negative Zone where he was the son and heir of King Grondaar. From a young age, he was taught by his father (War of Kings: Warriors v1 #1) His people consisted of brutal and ruthless warriors where they lived in the sheltering planet itself that consisted of glittering underground cities that was protected by massive defensive systems. During this time, he came to grow in prominence where he claimed that none of his fellows could compare to him. Around this time, he came to rule his world and married Nyglar who became his beloved queen where his reign was a brutal one. (Marvel Two-In-One v1 #75) During his reign, it was noted that the people begged Grondaar to help depose his son due to his brutal reign and the King ultimately accepted. Thus, he led an uprising against Blastaar where he assaulted his son's palace and slaughtered his followers. Upon his defeat, he was exiled from Baluur where he was kept chained on an asteroid for his crimes. (War of Kings: Warriors v1 #1)
At some unknown point, it was known that he had fathered a son named Burstarr. (Captain Marvel v4 #24)
Trapped in his adhesion suit, he remained imprisoned in a region of space until spatial carnage resulted in a series of explosions. These awoke him with Blastaar breaking free from the suit and seeking a new haven to ravage. At that time, he sighted Mister Fantastic being rescued by Triton with the pair looking to return to their world. Following them through the Distortion Area, he arrived unnoticed on Earth at the Baxter Building where he decided to conquer the planet but required a guide to show him the way. He came to encounter the Sandman where he forced the supervillain to serve him as his ally. (Fantastic Four v1 #62)
He came to attack a stronghold of Annihilus where he battled the insectoid but wanted his aid in conquering his homeworld. Blastaar claimed that he wanted help in taking over his home planet and vowed to serve Annihilus as his general where they could obliterate worlds and conquer galaxies. (Marvel Two-In-One v1 #75)
Afterwards, Professor Paxton Pentecost came to find the remains of Blastaar where he took it away and bombarded it with doses of gamma radiation. This revived alien from the Negative Zone whose unique physiology allowed his life-spark to be returned in this manner. A control mechanism gave Blastaar pain if he disobeyed the human scientist who had brought back the alien warlord to help him on a task. Pentecost had created Fully Automated Unit of Structural Technology (F.A.U.S.T.) that was self-automated factory constructed from Adamantium and did not need any repairs. However, his creation was taken away from him and he wanted it destroyed to prevent it from being used by others. Thus, he had Blastaar under his control with the intention of destroying F.A.U.S.T. (Marvel Team-Up v1 #18)
An injured Blastaar was floating in space when he was discovered by Earth's Eternals after their city of Olympia was accidentally sent into the Negative Zone. They came to rescue him and healed him but after regaining consciousness he attacked an seemingly kill them where he prowled the ruined city. Sersi during her return to her home alongside the Avengers came to enter into the Negative Zone to find the fate of the Eternals where they battled Blastaar. They were able to defeat the Baluurian where it was revealed that the Eternals still lived as they had simply reverted into energy where they were restored to their corporeal forms and Olympia returned to Earth. (Avengers v1 #310)
Later on, an interdimensional gateway on Earth would open a portal to the Negative Zone allowing Blastaar to arrive on that world. He arrived at a Genetech research facility on Sayville, Long Island where he forced the human scientists to serve him. Going on a rampage at the site, Blastaar looked to challenge the planet's top-heroes namely the Fantastic Four or the Avengers but ended up facing off against the New Warriors. He was easily able to overpower them individually but the Earth heroes working together managed to render him unconscious. With him defeated, they proceeded with sending Blastaar back through the portal into the Negative Zone where he awoke to find that he had been stranded on the uninhabited world of Vashom. (New Warriors v2 #1) He though managed to return to his empire where he had his scientists create a machine to amplify his powers in order to allow create a portal to Earth. However, he began to face opposition from rebels that opposed his rule with among them being a hero named Dusk. Around this time, Spider-Man came to find himself trapped in the Negative Zone where he helped Dusk escape. Around this time, Blastaar came to find an ally in another human stranded in his dimension with this being a man named Cletus Kasady. (Webspinners: Tales of Spider-Man v1 #13)
War of Kings
In the aftermath, Blastaar formed an alliance with the Kree who allowed him to rule as King of the Negative Zone. They assisted in his ascendancy and sponsored his regime as he replaced Annihilus. (Guardians of the Galaxy v2 #8) He later led his forces in an attack on Prison 42 where they managed to break through its gates and take over the facility that was intended as a means of attacking Earth though the Guardians of the Galaxy warned the planets to not open the portal. (Guardians of the Galaxy v2 #10)
Following the aftermath of Annihilation, Blastaar was seen leading a group of Kree soldiers against the Phalanx. The techno-organic race had decided to take advantage of the weakened universe by assimilating the remainders of the other alien races. Among the civilisations that were targeted were the Kree empire but they were defeated and Blastaar himself was captured. The Phalanx interrogated Blastaar and continued to torture him until he apparently died without having given them any information. This death appeared to be simply a hibernation that Blastaar was able to reverse which he has used to fool the Phalanx temporarily. Unfortunately, Blastaar became infected with the transmode virus and was made into one of their Select. His first mission was to stop Star-Lord and his team from crippling the Babel Spire that was powering the galaxy-wide forcefield that isolated Kree space. He was by the former Captain Universe before subduing Star-Lord for interrogation by Ultron personally. (Annihilation: Conquest v1 #4)
He was later approached by the Raptors Talon and Razor who offered Blastaar the Cosmic Control Rod that they took from Catastrophus in exchange for his assistance in influencing the outcome of the war between the Shi'ar and the Inhumans. While launching an attack to capture and kill Ravenous, Blastaar encountered Nova who was on a rescue mission to save his brother. Though Blastaar threatened Nova when he tried to provide protection to Ravenous and take Blastaar's ally Strontian as a prisoner of the Nova Corps, Nova silently reminded Blastaar what happened to the last person to threaten him with the Cosmic Control Rod and Blastaar yielded. (Nova v4 #28)
With the threat of the Cancerverse over, Blastaar came to lead his forces in an attack on the Inhumans at the Kree capital. This was part of a bid to cease power whilst the Kree and Inhumans were still recovering from their losses. He came to break into the throne room of Attilan where he attempted to murder Queen Medusa. However, before he could accomplish his goal, he was confronted by the newly formed Annihilators who were a team of powerful super-beings that would eliminate threats to galactic security. Working together, they managed to easily defeat Blastaar and send his forces back in retreat thus securing the Kree empire and their Inhuman leaders. (Thanos Imperative: Devastation v1 #1)
He then resumed his war against Annihilus within the Negative Zone but this conflict was interrupted by the arrival of a mysterious third faction. This force was responsible for infecting their respective soldiers and turning them against themselves. Initially, Blastaar had believed this to be a new weapon by the bug lord but came to learn that this was an invasion by the Many-Angled Ones of the Cancerverse. As a result, Blastaar came to ally with Annihilus against a common foe but despite their alliance they were unable to stem the tide of their enemy. In desperation, they agreed for Annihilus to journey into the positive-matter universe to seek allies to aid them whilst Blastaar held the line against the enemy. Once Annihilus had departed, the Baluurian king destroyed the portal to prevent the enemy from following the bug lord with Blastaar confronted by the Sentry of the Cancerverse who was spearheading the invasion on behalf of his undying masters. (Annihilation: Scourge Alpha v1 #1)
He later came into conflict with Captain Marvel Carol Danvers who defeated him and was taking him into custody. It was then that she was mentally transported to various realities due to wielding the Reality Stone. This allowed Blastaar to escape but Danvers after regaining control of herself came to defeat the villain again who was taken for detention by Alpha Flight. (Infinity Countdown: Captain Marvel v1 #1)
