Headmasters are beings created when an organic humanoid is binary-bonded with a Transformer, transforming into their head at will. The combined beings have enhanced reflexes and combat ability, due to the load of brain functions being divided between two beings. The process to create Headmasters was developed on Nebulos.
The humanoid is encased within an exo-suit that transforms into the robot's head. (There appeared to be some cybernetic modifications involved, since becoming a Headmaster saved Daniel Witwicky's life, but the Nebulons and Spike could remove their suits with ease.) The Transformer's mental functions are downloaded into a secondary storage unit in their chest when the head is not attached; in addition, they can only move in their alternate mode without their head.

The process involved the humanoid being heavily modified, becoming a cyborg. In addition, the process of becoming a Headmaster gives the humanoid and the Transformer a permanent mental link. Although an exo-suit is required to form the head mode, only a control helmet is needed to command the headless Transformer body.

A group of Cybertrons who colonized the planet Master. Scaling themselves down in size to conserve energy, they created larger robot bodies, transtectors, which they formed the head of. Some of the Headmasters went rogue, deciding to give Master's technological secrets to the Destrons, resulting in their being exiled. The Destron sympathizers joined the Destrons, resulting in the Cybertron Headmasters returning to Seibertron to help defeat them.

The combined beings have enhanced reflexes and combat ability, due to the load of brain functions being divided between two beings. The process to create Headmasters was developed on Nebulon by Brainstorm and Arcana, and evolved from an previously considered process that would have used Micromasters instead of humanoids.
The process involved the humanoid being heavily modified, becoming a cyborg and given an exo-suit that transforms into the Transformer's head. In addition, the process of becoming a Headmaster gives the humanoid and the Transformer a permanent mental link.
