Biography

Son Goten (Japanese: 孫そん悟ご天てん, Hepburn: Son Goten) was a male human/Saiyan hybrid born on Planet Earth as the child of Goku and his wife Chi-Chi with him being the younger brother of Gohan. He was conceived prior to Goku's battle against Cell with him being born roughly 9 months after the Cell Games. His father had died saving the world from Cell and had not been aware that Chi-Chi was pregnant at the time. In the aftermath, Chi-Chi cam to raise the young Goten where she not only had him study hard but also helped train him in martial arts. As a child, he demonstrated himself to had been stronger than either his father or older brother when they were his age. He even came to be able to reach the Super Saiyan state effortlessly by the time he was 7 years old. According to him, he managed to accidentally attain this form during a training session. Goten was soon trained by his older brother Son Gohan in preparation for the 25th World Martial Arts Tournament, which their father Goku would be attending when it was planned to revive him for the match. After Goku was revived, Goten came to meet his father for the first time. During the tournament, Goten easily breezes through the kids division of the Tenkaichi Budokai, until he was beaten by Trunks, Goten's best friend and the son of Vegeta.

Later, Goten, along with Trunks, watches as the villain Majin Buu fights Vegeta. Goten and Trunks attempt to assist a beaten Vegeta but are knocked out by Vegeta and taken away by Piccolo before Vegeta sacrifices himself in an attempt to defeat Buu. However these efforts are in vain, as Buu regenerates, after Vegeta dies from the aftershock of his attack. In a last ditch effort to save the world, Goku along with the help of Piccolo, teaches Trunks and Goten Fusion, a technique that allows the two children to fuse into a more powerful warrior, Gotenks. Gotenks battles Buu multiple times but even when he transforms into a Super Saiyan 3 Gotenks' power is not enough to defeat Buu and he is eventually absorbed by Buu, making Buu stronger. Goten and Trunks are eventually rescued from Buu by Vegeta and Goku but they are killed after Buu destroys the Earth. Goten is later brought back to life along with the rest of the Earth via the Dragon Balls in order to give energy to Goku's Super Spirit Bomb attack, which defeats Buu. Goten then returns to a normal life on Earth.

Sometime after Kid Buu's defeat, Goten helped his father who was ploughing he field by bringing his father lunch and took over for him by riding his tractor whilst he ate. Though Goten became distracted by Goku practicing and accidentally goes off a cliff, but is saved by Goku. Goten and Trunks go out and went shopping for a gift for Videl, soon to be married with Gohan. After seen looking for rings, they go out to get Videl cosmetics. They were told by an old man to go to a hot spring and there the water would make your skin feel new. They find the hot spring and encounter a giant snake. At one point, Goten was furious to the point he begins to use the Kamehameha, but Trunks told him not to because nearby old people were in the hot spring. The snake hits the jar with the water, but Trunks eventually sends it slithering away. Goten and Trunks arrive at Gohan and Videl's new house to bring Videl her wedding present which she rubs on her face and thanks them for it even though she realizes that it is just regular spring water. At the end of the day as the sun is setting, Goten comes back to the farm where Goku is working. Goten tells Goku about his day with Trunks and Goku is proud of them. Mr. Satan arrives and offers Goku 100 million Zeni for defeating Kid Buu. Goku starts to deny the money because of the vast amount of it until Goten reminds Goku that if he gave the money to Chi-Chi, he could go and freely train on King Kai's planet. After taking Goten's advice, Goku takes the money. Goten is at Bulma's birthday party on the Princess Bulma cruise ship, with the others. When Beerus is enraged because Good Buu ate all of the pudding, he fights him, and blasts him into the ocean. Goten and Trunks fuse into Gotenks, to fight Beerus, but Gotenks is easily defeated by a tap on the forearm. In the manga, Gotenks goes Super Saiyan 3 and is blasted into the ocean. Later, Goten and Trunks both go Super Saiyan for the ritual to make Goku a Super Saiyan God, along with Vegeta, Gohan, and a pregnant Videl. Goten and the others observe the fight between Goku and Beerus for a while from Bulma's ship, then in Bulma's ship. They couldn't fly on their own, because they were all out of ki from doing to Super Saiyan God ritual. After their battle, Beerus falls asleep in attempt to destroy Earth, so Whis takes him home. Goten is curious on how being a god felt for Goku while he was having his big feast.

Overview

Personality and attributes

In appearance, Goten as a child was shown to be very similar to that of his father, Goku. This included him having Goku's messy, unkempt hair, same eye color, lighter-pale complexion and a playful face. Similar to his father, Goten also wore a gi similar to Goku, except with long navy sleeves instead of his father's short ones. This new appearance included a shirt that said "Son Goten" and a long shaggy hairstyle.

As a child, Goten is a fun-loving and kind-hearted person like his father. However, thanks to his mother's structured upbringing, he tends to show more common sense and proper manners than his father did as a child.

Chi-Chi allowed Goten to have more freedom to explore his own interests than Gohan did growing up; Chi-Chi even took it upon herself to train Goten in the martial arts. This allowed him to develop love for play-fighting and bug catching.

As a child, he came to be somewhat mischievous due to being influenced by his best friend Trunks and joins him in their many antics.

He was shown to hold great love for wild animals, a trait obviously passed down from his father Goku, as he was seen often getting distracted from training by them on more than one occasion.

Goten was the son of noted Saiyan warrior Son Goku (孫そん悟空ごくう Son Gokū) and his human wife Chi-Chi (チチ Chichi). He was noted for having an older brother named Son Gohan (孫そん悟ご飯はん Son Gohan).

Powers and abilities

Goten was a human/Saiyan hybrid who was born with the ability to manipulate ki to achieve various supernatural feats. He had many abilities that he has displayed throughout the series. Like many other characters in the series, Goten can shoot basic chi energy blasts as well perform Bukû-jutsu, a technique that allows the user to fly.

It was noted that he was born somewhat stronger than either his father or older brother when they were his age. This was to the extent where he attained his Super Saiyan transformation much earlier than Goku or Gohan. Goten as said to be weaker when compared to his best friend Trunks.

Among the abilities known to him included:

  • Assault! (突撃 Totsugeki) :
  • Super Goten Strike (スーパー悟天ストライク Sūpā Goten Sutoraiku) :
  • Kamehameha (かめはめ波は Kamehameha) : one of his more powerful abilities with this technique that concentrated chi energy and formed it into a beam. Goten first displays this technique during the 25th Martial Arts Tournament.

Goten also had the ability of Fusion, a technique that allows him to combine with a being of similar power and stature. Goten uses this technique many times over the series with Trunks to combine into Gotenks.

Goten has also displayed the ability to transform into a Super Saiyan, which changes his hair color a light shade of gold and boosts his power immensely. Unlike many other saiyans in the series, Goten was able to reach this form at a very early age. The first transformation happened while training with his mother, for which he was called a "monster", much to Goten's confusion.
